Antibiotics and You Adult Education Program

This program was designed as a 30-minute to 1-hour, interactive presentation on how to prevent infections, including COVID-19, and how to use antibiotics safely.

With input from a variety of academic and community partners, the program was developed as a community service opportunity for university students in the state of Michigan. However, the content is relevant for anyone wanting to know more about the relationship between preventing infections and limiting antibiotic resistance. Tips on how to talk with your healthcare provider about antibiotic safety are included.

What will be taught using this program:

• What germs are and how to prevent the spread of germs, including the virus that causes COVID-19
• Why antibiotics treat infections only caused by bacteria, NOT viruses
• What antibiotic resistance is, how it happens, and what you can do to help prevent it
• How antibiotics work and how to use antibiotics more safely
